Brief History of Covenant Community Baptist Church (CCBC)

Covenant Community Baptist Church was the former English congregation of The Singapore Baptist Church (TSBC) for about ten years before she was constituted as a church in 1994 with the blessings of the mother-church. CCBC still uses the sanctuary on Sunday morning (8.30AM) for worship as she used to while she was the English congregation of TSBC. CCBC also has the fourth level of the educational building as her office and ministry space. We are thankful to TSBC for this wonderful partnership as CCBC develops slowly through the years.

The past nineteen years have seen CCBC on a roller coaster ride, as she struggles to find her feet after the initial years of growth. It is by the grace and mercies of God that she continues to persevere in the midst of demographic changes among the congregants, especially the past decade, as she faced one challenge after another. After much penitent prayers, shared leadership consultations with members, and a concerted recasting of the mission-vision, “CCBC: Toward a healthy, growing disciple-making church”, with an almost unanimous fervor among everyone to embark on a faith journey with God—a deep desire toward spiritual renewal and growth of our hearts, minds, and wills. The future is in God’s hands to guide and prosper as He wills. 2014 also marks another turning point for CCBC as she embarks on another faith journey with God to reach out through community service in the housing estate known as Bishan. CCBC, in partnership with the Friendship Christian Student Centre (FCSC), an after-school care centre providing a place for learning and rest to enrolled students after their school hours. CCBC endeavours to minister to these students through a Character -First programme to educate the young. Through our participation at the FCSC, we pray that God will open opportunities to share Christ’s love not only to them, but also to their family networks as well.

Pray for us that we may be found faithful in the things that matter to God—the Great Commission vision! The journey is long and many times difficult and discouraging, but nevertheless God has been faithful all these past years to CCBC. Ask God to use these humble beginnings to touch lives through transformed lives lived out as God’s Word instructs and His Spirit directs. To God be the glory!
